What to wear in Ireland while golfing?
Share
We have a saying in Ireland that there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong choice of golf clothes. Four seasons in a day is a common occurrence when golfing in Ireland and turning up for your big golf day be it a stag do, corporate event or your life long tee off on one of Ireland’s famed courses, being dressed correctly can make or break your experience.
As golf enthusiasts (if not professionals… yet) we at Ace Golf have you covered with some of our top tips on what to wear when hitting the course in Ireland. We have broken this list down into essentials, nice to haves and the leave at homes for all your golf clothes options. Packing for your golf trip if you are coming from the UK, Europe or America can leave you tight on space. You do not want to be carrying around your giant sub zero rain coat that you never use on the trip and you equally do not want to be left wanting if a wild Atlantic squall blows through in the middle of your round.

The essentials:
- A great golf polo that is moisture wicking (like our Ace Essential Golf Polo) dispense with the heavy cotton because if you get wet you are wet for the day.
- A warm 1/4 zip or jumper that is lightweight and moisture wicking.
- Waterproof golf shoes. At all times.
- A light rain jacket
- Long golf trousers. Leave the shorts for your next trip to Spain.
- A beanie - the humble head warmer can save the day. Pack one in your bag at all times.
- Waterproof trousers. You do not need to go all out here but having a pair to cover your nicer trousers can be essential.
- An under layer (for autumn and winter). Having a base layer so that you are not having to wear jackets and hoodies to stay warm when it is dry or cool when it is hot. There are plenty of affordable brands with great options for base layers now.
- A proper golf umbrella. Bring anything that is flimsy and you may as well throw it in the bin because the Irish wind is going to do it for you.
- Snood and a hand warmer go a long way in the depths of winter.
- Shorts - 9/10 times you will not need them. Unless it's a great Irish summer day you will be fine in trousers year round. By all means if you are travelling for June and July and the forecast looks good bring the shorts.
- Sneakers, runners, trainers or non waterproof golf shoe styles. Don’t do it. End of. Hawaiian Shirts (unless on a stag).
